MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Md. (DC News Now) – Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) is trying to have better oversight of the amount of time students spend on their phones. On Friday, the school district said it updated its guidelines for mobile devices for the next school year. The revised policy allows high schoolers to use their phones in between classes and during lunch, but not during class. Middle and elementary school students aren’t allowed to use them during the school day at all.

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Md. (DC News Now) – Seven-year-old Fallon D’Aguiar was diagnosed with leukemia in December. Because of her symptoms, that meant no more public playgrounds. Volunteers from StarKist and the Roc Solid Foundation were at Fallon’s home Friday to bring the playground to her. The group of volunteers worked tirelessly for an hour and a half to surprise the young girl.

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Md. (DC News Now) — Montgomery County Executive Marc Elrich and Montgomery County Business Center members met with three small business owners on Thursday to thank them for their hard work in helping the community grow. The first business on the tour was K. Hill Orthodontics in Silver Spring. Owner Dr. Karlene-Anne Hill opened her business in 2002 and says she most enjoys helping the people in Montgomery County.

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Md. (DC News Now) – Dozens gathered at the Montgomery County Department of Police (MCPD) headquarters Wednesday morning for the Fallen Heroes Memorial Service. Attendees remembered 22 officers who died while serving Montgomery County. “This is a challenging time of year for many of us,” MCPD Chief of Patrol Darren Francke said.
