In May 2022, the cost of a chicken rice set at the Market Street Hawker Centre, consisting of steamed chicken, roast pork, gizzard and an egg, cost me S$5.50. This is a major source of downside risk to the region's growth prospects for 2025. In a bid to offset the impact of these moves, ANZ Research expects China to implement fiscal and monetary stimulus measures to support domestic demand.

To celebrate the half century of partnership, the 2024 ASEAN-Australia Special Summit is taking place in Melbourne this week (March 4-6). Deepening engagement with ASEAN and its member states is a priority for Australia. From an economic perspective, ASEAN’s population of 680 million puts one of the world’s fastest growing regions right at Australia’s doorstep. ASEAN’s combined nominal gross domestic product, $US2 trillion in 2010, is expected to reach $US4 trillion ($6.1 trillion) this year.
