Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó has announced that he met with Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha in Brussels on Friday 4 April. The meeting took place at NATO headquarters, where a two-day gathering of foreign ministers from NATO member states is underway. "Another meeting with Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha. As before, now and in the future, we will continue to stand up for the interests of Hungarians in Zakarpattia Oblast (Ukraine)," Szijjártó wrote on Facebook.

Representatives from France, the United Kingdom and Ukraine are meeting in Kyiv on 4 April to discuss the deployment of a military contingent to Ukraine. As reported by Ukrainian public broadcaster Suspilne, diplomatic sources told Suspilne that the meetings are taking place at the level of chiefs of military staff. The French delegation is led by General Thierry Burkhard, while Admiral Antony Radakin heads the UK delegation.

Kremlin envoy Kirill Dmitriev, who is currently on a visit to Washington, has said that the position of the Trump administration on Ukraine's membership of NATO is in line with the views of Russian ruler Vladimir Putin. US General Christopher Cavoli, NATO’s Supreme Allied Commander Europe, believes Ukraine has managed to address "some" of its personnel shortage problems by expanding its pool of recruits and optimising the allocation of military resources. The general pointed out at a hearing of the US Senate Committee on Armed Services that the Russians appear to be "suffering from a paucity of armoured vehicles and a lack of manpower".

US General Christopher Cavoli, NATO’s Supreme Allied Commander Europe, has stated that Ukraine is not doomed to defeat in the war. "No, Senator, thank you for the question because I think it’s an important one. There is nothing inevitable in war, and the Ukrainians are in very strong defensive positions right now and are improving weekly their ability to generate force and to reinforce those positions," Cavoli said in response to a question of whether Ukraine is destined to lose.
