BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) - A $1.3 million grant from the National Institute of Health will fund a new program at UVM's Larner College of Medicine that is designed to help girls from immigrant backgrounds pursue careers in the health sciences. The New American Youth on the Rise (NAYR) program aims to use a three-pronged approach to attract young women that involves their families and school counselors. The goal is to promote health equity and increase representation in the health care workforce.

SOUTH BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) - A Vermont-based staffing agency has received $2 million in equity funding to help accelerate work opportunities for marginalized groups. Working Fields aims to strengthen communities by connecting local employers with dedicated job seekers. Officials say their approach has helped over 3,000 people with employment at more than 100 companies over the past six years. Kiana Burks spoke with the organization's Chelsea Bardot Lewis about what they do.

ST. ALBANS, Vt. (WCAX/Gray News) – A 23-year-old person of interest is in custody on unrelated charges after police found the body of a missing 82-year-old woman in the woods in Vermont. Roberta Martin, 82, was last heard from by her family on July 16, and she was reported missing on July 17. Troopers and community members spent days looking for Martin around the area of her home on Butternut Hollow Road in Enosburgh, Vermont.

ENOSBURGH, Vt. (WCAX) - A person of interest in connection with the death of an Enosburgh woman is now in custody on unrelated charges. Roberta Martin, 82, was last heard from a week ago. Her body was found on Sunday. Police have interviewed numerous people as they investigate the homicide, including neighbors who lived near Martin on Butternut Hollow Road. One of those people that police wanted to interview was Darren Martell, 23.
