The Supreme Court for the CNMI has denied the motion to stay trial proceedings filed by an alleged rapist who has also petitioned the high court to disqualify all Superior Court judges from hearing his case. Last Friday, the Supreme Court issued its ruling on William Abraczinskas’ motion to stay trial proceedings pending a ruling on his previous petition to disqualify all Superior Court judges from hearing his case.

The office of Sen. Celina R. Babauta (D-Saipan) was burglarized over the weekend and the unfortunate incident remains under investigation. The Department of Public Safety continues to investigate the burglary incident at the office of Sen. Babauta who said she discovered the break-in just yesterday morning when she noticed that a rock had been thrown to her office window.

The man accused of conspiring with former Bureau of Motor Vehicles director Juana Deleon Guerrero to produce fraudulent CNMI driver’s licenses has pleaded guilty in the U.S. District Court for the NMI. Li Yongde, better known as “Ivan,” has pleaded guilty to license fraud related charges. Specifically, Li pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to unlawfully produce an identification document and conspiracy to commit bank fraud.

The Department of Defense’s Innovative Readiness Training Operation CNMI Wellness, which was supposed to last eight days, could be cut short due to unforeseen circumstances. Lt. Col. Kristin Porter, public affairs officer for IRT Wellness Missions, said the mission was initially supposed to last from July 12 to July 19 for Saipan and from July 12 to July 17 for Rota and Tinian. However, due to unforeseen circumstances, the medical mission could be cut short by two days.

The two remaining CNMI Superior Court judges left to hear former governor Ralph DLG Torres’ petition against Department of Finance have officially recused themselves from the case. Superior Court Presiding Judge Roberto Naraja and Associate Judge Kenneth Govendo officially issued orders yesterday, recusing themselves from hearing Torres’ pending petition against Department of Finance and the Office of the Attorney General regarding special prosecutor James Kingman’s contract.
