NEWTON, MASS. (WHDH) - The ongoing conflict in the Middle East has stranded many in both Iran and Israel, including a Newton woman who had traveled overseas for a graduation ceremony. Lauri Meizler traveled to Israel this month to attend her daughter’s college graduation. But days later, the Iran-Israel war broke out, and Meizler and her daughter found themselves hiding in a safe room. “The whole building shook. We heard something like buildings collapsing, so it was terrorizing,” Meizler said.

BOSTON (WHDH) - Cheers erupted for Karen Read after she was found not-guilty of murder and manslaughter, putting the criminal case behind her. But, Read’s legal troubles aren’t over yet. She still faces a civil lawsuit. “It’ll be back. We’ll be doing the Karen Read show one more time if its up to the O’Keefe family,” said 7NEWS Legal Analyst Tom Hoopes. The brother of Boston police officer John O’Keefe filed a wrongful death suit last summer on behalf of their family.

REVERE, MASS. (WHDH) - A retired police officer was killed in a house fire in Revere Tuesday afternoon, according to the Revere Fire Department. Fire officials said Richard Serino 77, was rescued by firefighters from the first floor of a home on Washington Avenue, officials said. He was taken to a local hospital, where he later died, authorities said. Serino was a member of the Revere Police Department from 1979 to 2013.

BURLINGTON, MASS. (WHDH) - A picture of men sleeping on a bench or side by side on the floor, covered only by a Mylar blanket, was given to 7NEWS by Marcelo Gomes da Silva’s attorney. She says the picture depicts just what kind of conditions her client was held in at ICE’s processing center in Burlington for six days. “I don’t want to cry, but I want to say that place, its not good,” said Gomes when he was released from ICE custody.

CAMBRIDGE, MASS. (WHDH) - A federal judge in Boston is once again temporarily blocking the Trump administration from taking any action against international students at Harvard University. One Harvard alum, who was an international student at the college, showed up at the federal courthouse as attorneys argued whether a ban on international students is constitutional. She did not feel comfortable sharing her identity, but she says international students are in limbo.
