Planning chiefs are pushing for the £3 million restoration of Aberdeen’s Denburn to be “paused indefinitely” after they were refused a crucial grant. The restoration project was launched two years ago to make the ancient stream and surrounding wetland habitat more accessible to residents. Under the plans, the 1.5 mile stretch from the Den of Maidencraig nature reserve to King’s Gate in the west of the city would have been enhanced.

A number of social care cuts are to be rolled out across Aberdeenshire despite fears going ahead with them would be seen as “taking a leap of faith”. The Aberdeenshire Health and Social Care Partnership (AHSCP) announced drastic plans to save around £20 million back in February. Members of the integration joint board met on Wednesday to discuss the proposals. It was the first meeting for new interim chief officer Leigh Jolly, who took on the role from Pam Milliken.

Pam Stewart and daughter Gemma “jumped at the chance” to buy the shop when it was put up for sale in the summer of 2023. But they soon began to realise they would need a bigger space elsewhere – as they found the business was outgrowing the current village store.

Volunteering there has been a big part of his life, keeping himself busy by spending three days a week sorting out the metal into different piles. When he heard it was closing down, he “couldn’t even move” and remained in bed for the whole day contemplating a future without it.
