Residents living at the Doune Court sheltered housing complex are “living a nightmare” as they face an anxious wait to find out if it will be shuttered. It is one of 17 facilities run by Aberdeenshire Council that is at threat of being closed. According to the council, low demand for occupancy has been an issue at Doune Court. It is projecting a shortfall of £2 million over the next 30 years, mainly due to the predicted “high cost” of future upgrades that would be needed.

Pregnant mothers could be asked to bring their own nappies for their newborns as NHS Grampian plans to stop handing them out to save cash. That is just one of many measures the cash-strapped health board has unveiled as it aims to save £23 million over the next year. A financial recovery plan with 79 proposed savings was submitted to the Scottish Government last month which would reduce its deficit to £45 million.
