Penn Highlands Healthcare cut its workforce at hospitals in Washington and Fayette counties by about 36 positions Wednesday, citing ongoing post-COVID-19 pandemic financial struggles. The layoffs affect Penn Highlands Mon Valley and Connellsville hospitals, according to a statement by the Clearfield County-based health care system. Twenty-six of the layoffs were in non-clinical areas and the furloughed employees were eligible to apply for other jobs in the system.
