    President Donald Trump is coming to the Pittsburgh region on Friday to hold a rally at U.S. Steel’s Irvin Works in West Mifflin. He announced the visit on May 23 in a social media post that appeared to greenlight the long-proposed merger between U.S. Steel and Tokyo-based Nippon Steel. Trump called it a “planned partnership” between the steelmakers and said the deal would keep U.S. Steel in America and its headquarters in Pittsburgh.

    The national nonprofit born out of the 2018 attack on a Pittsburgh synagogue received a massive funding boost from the Richard King Mellon Foundation that leaders say will help in the rebuild and future programing at what will become The Tree of Life Institute. Demolition at the synagogue, where 11 people were killed in a mass shooting during Shabbat services, began in early 2024.
