MONROE, La. (KNOE) - Governor Jeff Landry issued an executive order Tuesday to declare a statewide disaster declaration in the crawfish industry. The document says the move is to assist in securing federal resources. Landry’s executive order cites the extreme drought conditions and record temperatures Louisiana faced in 2023 for why the help is needed. The governor directs and authorizes all departments of the state to cooperate in support of the crawfish industry.

MONROE, La. (KNOE) - Kory York’s attorney, J. Michael Small, says he plans to take York’s case to the state supreme court following the denial of York’s appeal to dismiss his indictment. In December 2022, York - who is a former Louisiana State Police Trooper - was charged with one count of negligent homicide and 10 counts of malfeasance in office as a result of Ronald Greene’s death.

UNION PARISH, La. (KNOE) - According to a court document, the Louisiana Second Circuit Court of Appeal denied Kory York’s appeal seeking to review the denial of his motion to quash. The document was filed on Jan. 31, 2024, in the Second Circuit in Shreveport, regarding the case in Union Parish.

Vidalia, La. (KNOE) - The 4-year-old boy who stole the hearts of many KNOE viewers has died. According to family members, Watson Calhoun passed away over the weekend. Watson had been diagnosed with cancer. After Watson’s doctors told his family that he didn’t have much time left, the family and the Vidalia community celebrated Christmas while he was still able to enjoy it in August.
