Mystic has its share of traditions, but the Christmas rollout held every Saturday after Thanksgiving is one of the most popular. What it includes: Santa Claus motoring along the Mystic River on the Cross Sound Ferry’s Tug Boat in the afternoon and then landing at Mystic River Park. When you enter the Goodspeed Opera House, you see a scrim onstage that resembles a present. The name of the current show, “A Christmas Story, The Musical,” is emblazoned on a giant gift tag. The rest of the curtain and the surrounding proscenium are designed to look like a present, with red bows and what looks like holiday wrap. That is all perfectly appropriate, because the show that is revealed from behind all the red-and-green-ness is the kind of Christmas gift audiences tend to love.
