Cameron Meadows: Time to scope plans

A study of the proposed Cameron Meadows housing development in Cameron Park is under way. Plans for the 104-acre site enjoyed as open space and known to local residents as Rasmussen Pond are a 161-lot subdivision of mostly single-family homes, and 16 accessory dwelling units to serve as affordable housing. An environmental impact report is in preparation and El Dorado County will be taking comments on the project through 5 p.m. March 5.

Looking for answers as to how a snowboarder was left inside a gondola the night of Jan. 25, Heavenly Mountain Resort management found a "breakdown in protocols."Monica Laso, a Chilean woman on vacation with a group of friends, spent the day snowboarding at the South Lake Tahoe ski resort. She reportedly became exhausted and took a gondola bound for Heavenly Village, where she thought she would meet back up with her friends.

No one thought to look up when 10-week-old pup Luna went missing Sunday morning. It wasn't until the next day the German Shepherd-Labrador mix was spotted about 35 feet high perched between branches of a grey pine tree on her owner Becky and Brian Spies' Lotus property. Becky described Luna as "always by (her) side," so when she didn't come when called after being let out at 7 a.m., a search of the Spies' 10 acres off Clark Mountain Road began.

Prescribed burns heating up in Eldorado National Forest

Eldorado National Forest personnel burned about 250 acres of understory fire fuels in the Peavine Ridge Road area Oct. 17-19 and they next plan to burn roughly 120 acres off the 5000 block of Sly Park Road the week of Oct. 23, according to information from the U.S. Forest Service. The prescribed burning project in the Peavine Ridge area was in the vicinity of Jaybird Canyon Road northeast of Pollock Pines.

Early Tuesday morning Pioneer Elementary School Principal Boyd Holler, 37, was arrested on suspicion of cybercrimes involving minors, according to information from the El Dorado County District Attorney's Office. Charges against the Somerset area educator include four counts of sending harmful matter to a minor and one count of contacting or communicating with a minor for the purpose of engaging in lewd and lascivious behavior.

The El Dorado County Sheriff's Office is investigating after a body was found┬áSaturday afternoon in the waters of Folsom Lake. A person who was recreating in the Rattlesnake Bar area where the North Fork of the American River flows into the lake located the body of a woman and notified authorities, according to EDSO's Sgt. Kyle Parker. A sheriff's team responded to the scene, assisting in recovering the Jane Doe. Parker said EDSO is leading the investigation into the woman's death.
