Less than six months after being sworn in for his second term as Douglas County commissioner, Gardnerville Ranchos resident Danny Tarkanian announced Wednesday he’s seeking the office of Nevada attorney general. Tarkanian, a Republican, is the second Nevadan to announce he’s seeking the office. Nevada Treasurer Democrat Zach Conine announced he was running on May 14 after Attorney General Aaron Ford announced he was running for governor.

Genoa, Nev. — At its peak, a three-hour power outage affected more than 11,000 NV Energy customers 6-9 p.m. Tuesday. NV Energy cited wildlife as the cause, which usually means birds in the line. It was the second time in four days. NVEnergy.com reported power was back on by 9:15 p.m. in Douglas County. County commissioners approved the final budget on Tuesday 3-0.

Bail was increased to $1 million cash or $2 million bond for a man accused of being drunk during a fatal head-on crash at Lake Tahoe 7 a.m. March 20. Stephen Michael Pawlowski, 64, has been in custody since the crash on $500,000 cash bail. Pawlowski appeared with attorney Alexandra Dyer in Tahoe Township Justice Court on Tuesday. Prosecutor Chelsea Mazza filed a motion to double the bail after prosecutors learned that Pawlowski was on the verge of posting the cash bail.

Two men accused of attempting to extort $50,000 from a Genoa resident were released last week after agreeing to delay their preliminary hearing, which was set for Friday. Under Nevada law, those accused of a crime are entitled to a preliminary hearing within 15 days of their arraignment.
