An attempt by security to break up a large fight at Zephyr Cove Beach resulted in an officer being threatened with a knife and pelted by full beer cans on Thursday afternoon. Sheriff Dan Coverley reported the fight involving around 30 juveniles occurred around 4 p.m.The two juveniles who assaulted the security officer attempted to flee the scene but were pulled over and arrested. The juvenile armed with a knife was charged with assault with a deadly weapon and minor consuming.

Genoa, Nev. — A spot just this side of Carson Pass got 1.1 inches of rain on Thursday, according to the National Weather Service. That showed up as 190 additional cubic feet per second on the West Fork’s river gauge at Woodfords which made a nice spike right around 12:50 a.m.For a change we know what knocked the power out to Minden around 3:30 p.m. Thursday after a couple of lightning strikes before the afternoon’s downpour.

An attempt to ford Barney Riley Trail in a Jeep on Monday morning left two anglers stranded in the middle of the East Fork of the Carson River. California Highway Patrol helicopter H-20 out of Auburn was dispatched in response to a 6:55 a.m. call from the Alpine County Sheriff’s Office. Officer M. Cole said the flight stopped in South Lake Tahoe to pick up a water rescue technician from El Dorado County Search and Rescue with a Billy Pugh rescue net.

Genoa, Nev. — Commissioners will discuss a 2.59 percent rate increase for Douglas Disposal collections and service rates that’s allowed under the franchise agreement with the county. Commissioners meet 10 a.m. today at the Douglas County Courthouse, 1616 Eighth St., Minden.
