OBETZ — Dan Hayes sent captain Logan Stentz to accept the runner-up trophy May 31. Hayes began Warrior Rugby a decade ago, and players of Stentz’s ilk have embodied the spirit of a program that quickly became a dynasty. Warrior Rugby fell 30-17 to Medina in the Single School state championship game at Fortress Obetz. “Logan’s a great kid. He’s a C-TEC student but was basically done with high school and had been for some time, doing his internship,” Hayes said.

Nathan Burkey and Troy Martindale are taking their impressive senior seasons to the Division II state championships. Northridge’s Burkey crossed in 38.83 seconds to place third in the 300-meter hurdles May 31 during the regional meet at Lexington. Burkey, who also placed eighth in the 110 hurdles (15.70), earned a trip to next week’s state meet at Ohio State. Lakewood’s Troy Martindale placed fifth in the 300 hurdles (40.33).

PICKERINGTON — Roy Price Jr. said he looked forward to racing against runners faster than him, but he proved to be the fastest May 30. The Newark sophomore crossed in a time of 14.45 seconds to win the 110-meter hurdles during the Division I regional championships at Pickerington North. Price, one of four champions from Licking County, earned his first trip to next weekend’s state meet at Ohio State. “It’s definitely nice. I have been training for this since last year,” Price said.
