India’s Neeraj Chopra was golden with an 88.16m effort. German Julian Weber picked up silver at 87.88, with bronze going to Brazilian Luiz Mauricio da Silva, who threw a South American record distance of 86.62. Grenada’s two-time world champion Anderson Peters was fifth at 80.29. Walcott’s opening round throw was 80.94m.

El Dorado East Secondary sprinter Trevaughn Stewart just got the better of Zaccheus Charles in the Boys 17+ 100 metres final on day one of the National Secondary Schools Track and Field Championships at the Hasely Crawford Stadium, Mucurapo, on Monday. Stewart clocked 10.56 seconds for a narrow margin of victory on Charles, the St Benedict’s College student forced to settle for silver in 10.57. Success Laventille Secondary’s Jeremiah St John bagged bronze in 10.87.

Trinidad and Tobago’s Keshorn Walcott finished just off the podium in the Men’s javelin event at the Paavo Nurmi Games in Turku, Finland, yesterday. Walcott threw 81.91 metres for fourth spot. Kenya’s Julius Yego was golden with an 83.08m effort. Poland’s Cyprian Mrzyglod threw 82.90 to pick up silver, while bronze was bagged by Finland’s Toni Keranen, his 81.96 throw earning him a slight edge on Walcott.

Jereem “The Dream” Richards was a standout performer in the inaugural season of Grand Slam Track, and was looking forward to another strong showing in what was supposed to be the fourth and final 2025 meet in Los Angeles, California, USA, at the end of June. The LA meet, however, was cancelled. Richards told the Express that while he is disappointed, the premature end to Grand Slam Track 2025 has not thrown off his plans.

The Trinidad and Tobago sprinter crossed the line in 22.60 seconds. The top three spots went to American sprinters. University of South Carolina sophomore JaMeesia Ford was golden in 22.21 seconds.
