MOSS LANDING — Monterey County officials are continuing to collect samples from the aftermath of the fire at the Moss Landing battery storage plant back in January, in addition to checking out results from the survey filled out by hundreds of residents. During a Monterey County news briefing Thursday, Ric Encarnacion, the director of the Environmental Health Bureau, said his department continues to work with federal and state partners to collect samples.

MONTEREY — A rainbow crosswalk is coming to Alvarado Street. City Council voted 4-1 Tuesday night in favor of the project to create the crosswalk on the intersection of Alvarado and Pearl streets using private funding through local organizations and donors and to outline a crosswalk policy that can be updated for future projects. Council member Ed Smith voted no.

MONTEREY — Emphasizing that it strives to sponsor programs that support information and representation for all groups in the community, the Monterey Public Library announced it will co-sponsor a “Drag Queen Storytime” as part of the library’s Pride Month programming next week in a Cannery Row business. The event is open to all ages. In collaboration with Monterey Peninsula Pride and Oscar’s Playground, the event will take place from 7-8 p.m. June 11 at Oscar’s Playground, 685 Cannery Row.
