    Spring Valley Hall High School hosted Tuesday its annual Convocation and Awards Ceremony in the Robert D. Manahan Auditorium for the Performing Arts. During this ceremony, students were recognized for their achievements and presented with awards and scholarships from both Hall High School and outside supporters.

    The Illinois Valley Hispanic Partnership Council will be hosting its annual Cinco de Mayo festival at 5 p.m. Friday, May 3, at Northbrook Middle School, 1804 Guiles Ave., Mendota. There is no fee for entrance to the event. This annual event features royalty competitions, food trucks, face painting and music, among other activities. In addition, more than 20 businesses and organizations will have booths at the event.

    The Peru Public Library, 1409 11th St., will host its teen game night 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Friday, May 3. Children in the age range of 12 to 18 are welcome to attend. It’s an activity geared for teens to meet new friends and play all kinds of games. The library also will be continuing its Illinois Valley Library Road Trip to May 18. Have your passport stamped at as many libraries as you’re comfortable visiting and return to your home library to turn in your passport.

    A Mendota man could face up to seven years in prison for allegedly possessing a .380-caliber pistol despite a felony conviction. Jesse J. Garrett, 36, was charged early Tuesday with unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon, a Class 2 felony, and driving while license suspended. He was granted pre-trial release, with conditions, following a hearing Tuesday in La Salle County Circuit Court.

Meet up with other homeschoolers and learn about various artists and artistic styles. 4 to 5 p.m. Monday, April 29: Teen DIY, seventh through 12th grade. Teens, try one of the library’s DIY projects. This month the group will be making various things with paracord.
