The last pitches have been thrown in the Bureau Valley and Princeton rivalries on the softball and baseball diamonds. The Bureau County rivals met for the last scheduled time on the diamonds at Bureau Valley on Thursday with the Princeton softball and Bureau Valley baseball teams winning. The Storm will be leaving the Three Rivers Conference this fall for the Lincoln Trail Conference and are not scheduled to play the Tigers in any sport for the foreseeable future.

The Princeton Tiger tennis team just keeps on winning. The Tigers won Saturday’s Rochelle Hubs Invite, scoring 24 points with four first-place finishes to lead the field. Rochelle and Newman tied for second with 16 points, Mendota was fourth (10) and Dixon was fifth (8). Tigers Tyson Phillips (No. 1) and Chase Sims (No. 2) swept the singles titles.

Gateway Services announced its fifth annual Online Silent Auction will take place noon to 9 p.m. Sunday, June 2, and Sunday, June 9. Items will be up for bid on Gateway’s Facebook page during the one-week silent auction. A photo and description of the item will be posted, along with a starting bid. Bidders can then increase the bid in $1 increments. The person with the high bid at the end wins and will be able to collect the item(s) beginning on June 10.

The city of Mendota is asking all residents and commuters to Mendota to complete a survey that will help to identify local housing conditions and needs. The Illinois Housing Development Authority and Mendota have recently formed a partnership and are undertaking a planning effort to complete a housing needs assessment as part of an overall community revitalization strategy. The surveys, available in Spanish and English, are anonymous and should be able to be completed in less than 10 minutes.
