More than one in three Oxford College students matriculated early to Emory University’s Atlanta campus this spring, marking the highest early matriculation rate in six years. In total, 166 of the 493 students who entered as Oxford’s Class of 2025 — 33.7% — left the campus after three semesters, according to data from Assistant Director of University Communications Rachel Smith.

Anxious Georgians gathered together on Nov. 5 to watch the 2024 election unfold. Emory University held watch parties at Harland Cinema and at Oxford College and the Oxford Votes Initiative and Oxford Young Democrats hosted separate watch parties in the Phi Gamma Hall and the Oxford Student Center Greer Forum, respectively. The Georgia Democratic and Republican Parties hosted watch parties attended by legislators, political operatives and foreign leaders.

Rockdale County commissioners launched a federal class-action lawsuit against BioLab and its parent company, KIK Consumer Products, for damages to local citizens and companies. The lawsuit, which commissioners filed on Oct. 29, came a month after a chemical fire erupted at the BioLab facility in Conyers, Ga, about six miles from Oxford College.

The National Institute of Aging awarded the Emory University Global Diabetes Research Center a $22 million grant toward the Cardiometabolic Risk Reduction in South Asia (CARRS) Cohort’s research on the link between Alzheimer’s disease and insulin resistance, which the National Institutes of Health classifies as Type 3 diabetes. CARRS Cohort co-Director Venkat Narayan believes the grant opens numerous possibilities for research on the link between diabetes and cognitive disorders.

Oxford’s Asian Culture Club (ACC) partnered with the Oxford Cooking Club to host “Sip ‘n Savor,” an event that brought authentic Vietnamese and Indian cuisine to Oxford College on Oct. 3. As students walked into Murdy Hall, they encountered a sea of people lining up outside the kitchen for a treat after a long day of classes. ACC’s Co-President Amanda Chen (25Ox) shared the importance of celebrating Asian cultural cuisine while learning about different cultures in Atlanta.
