Bufstream is a Kafka-compatible streaming system which stores records directly in an object storage service like S3. We found three safety and two liveness issues in Bufstream, including stuck consumers and producers, spurious zero offsets, and the loss of acknowledged writes in healthy clusters.

Jetcd is the official Java client library for the etcd coordination service. We show that jetcd contains an improper retry mechanism which allows transactions to execute multiple times, or to appear to fail but actually succeed. To users, these behaviors may appear as lost update, circular information flow, and aborted read. These issues have been outstanding for three and a half years. No patch is available, but disabling the retry mechanism is straightforward.

Datomic is a temporal Entity-Attribute-Value OLTP database which supports non-interactive transactions on top of pluggable storage engines. It offers a variety of query mechanisms across thick and thin clients, including Datalog, graph traversal, and an ODM-style API. We evaluated Datomic Pro 1.0.7075 and found its inter-transaction safety properties appear stronger than claimed.
