(AP) — A storm system sweeping over large areas of the U.S. South and Midwest resulted in at least 16 weather-related deaths by early Sunday, with overnight tornado and flash flood warnings setting up more severe weather that forecasters say could cause rising waterways for days to come. Many of the impacted areas already are heavily waterlogged by days of severe storms that spawned deadly tornadoes.

MONTROSE, Colo. (KREX) — Over the past few weeks, Montrose’s United Methodist Church has been cited 23 times for letting a portion of the unhoused population sleep in its courtyard. Officials with the church say it’s on private property, so they think they are in the clear to be doing such a service. They have created nine spaces in the courtyard for people to sleep and keep their belongings.

Colorado hospitals and health systems are urging state legislators to take a cautious and considered approach to any new healthcare legislation this session. (KREX) — On Monday, the Colorado Mesa University men’s and women’s swimming and diving squads were both named CSCAA (College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America) Scholar All-America Teams for the recently completed 2024 fall semester. The women have been honored in the last 23 semesters since 2013. The men have now been selected in 15 out of the last 16 semesters. The women earned the honor after posting a team GPA of 3.57 while the men had a GPA of 3.45.
