GOSHEN — Edward Holley’s legal defense team announced Friday afternoon they will not put on a case during Holley’s murder trial — a move that surprised presiding Judge Hyun Chin Kim and special prosecutors. Earlier that morning, prosecutors Julia Cornachio and Laura Murphy rested their case against Holley, who is accused of second-degree murder for killing Megan McDonald in 2003.

GOSHEN — An inmate at Orange County Jail claimed he heard Edward Holley confess to another inmate that he killed Megan McDonald. John DiCaprio told jurors he overheard Holley’s confession in as many as 10 conversations that took place over a month in 2023 — before Holley’s arrest for McDonald’s murder. (At the time, Holley was in jail for an unrelated nonviolent offense.) DiCaprio is accused of shooting a man and injuring a child in Newburgh in 2022.

GOSHEN — Prosecutors made the first significant connection between Edward Holley and Megan McDonald’s murder this week — a signal their case is turning to Holley’s alleged involvement in her death as the trial approaches the one-month mark. Since opening arguments, jurors have heard about a purplish Honda Civic hatchback allegedly spotted with McDonald’s white Mercury Sable in the predawn hours of March 14, 2003. That night, the 20-year-old was choked and beaten to death.
