    A 5k to remember a mother who lost her battle to addiction. The 9th annual Summer Smith Addiction Awareness Memorial Run was held Saturday morning at Guilderland High School. The race is in memory of a woman who died in 2015 after a long battle with addiction. The goal is to raise awareness about the epidemic of substance abuse and support efforts for recovery. Proceeds from the race will be donated to the Addiction Care Center of Albany.

    People were challenged to climb the tallest building in the Capital Region to help raise money for cancer research, as part of the Capital Region Big Climb. People climbed all 42 flights of stairs at the Corning Tower in downtown Albany. This physically-challenging event is a fundraiser for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. The proceeds will go towards blood cancer research, support services, and education.
