    It’s been a long six months for Stu Hoffman, and his wife. On November 6, the Mountain Fire roared through Ventura County, destroying 181 houses. Their West Highland Drive home was one of them. But, they’ve reached an important step in their efforts to rebuild. The debris has been removed from their lot, and the property has been certified as safe to rebuild. "The lot's cleared, and eveything's okay to go on the site and start prepping the site," said Hoffman.

    The remains of a Ventura County couple which disappeared last year have been found off of a trail in the Conejo Valley, and the deaths are being investigated as homicidesJose and Stephanie Perez of Simi Valley disappeared last July. On May 4, a hiker discovered human remains off of Sunrise and Autumn Trails in Thousand Oaks. The spot is in the hills between Thousand Oaks and Simi Valley, just east of Highway 23.

    A man who was once a Tri-Counties television personality is headed to prison. Craig Case was sentenced to more than 26 years in state prison after being convicted of embezzling hundreds of thousands of dollars from an elderly Montecito resident. Case was convicted of 62 felony counts during a month-long jury trial. Investigators say he conspired with a woman who had power of attorney for the 94-year-old victim to steal nearly $700,000.

    We’re sitting in on a very different kind of college class taking place in an unusual setting. There are 20 students in a class which looks at the criminal justice system, and how it can be improved. They’re all California Lutheran University students. But 11 of them travel to the Juvenile Justice Facility in Oxnard to attend the class. The other nine students live here because they are incarcerated.
