A 37-year-old mother was stabbed to death in her own home, and her teenage son was the one who found her body. According to Middlesex County prosecutors, Edison police received a 911 call Sunday at 4:37 p.m. reporting a stabbing on Horizon Drive. They say Lizbeth Benitez-Rivera, of Edison, was found with multiple stab wounds. She was pronounced deceased at the scene. Prosecutors say Benitez-Rivera's 16-year-old son was asleep in his room.

There was another day of delays on NJ Transit Monday morning following a hellish month of transit issues and cancellations. The company says the Northeast Corridor and North Jersey Coast Line rail service was operating on or close to schedule Monday, with residual delays to trains already en route, following earlier downed commercial utility wire on Amtrak’s Northeast Corridor tracks near Rahway.

Hurricane Beryl made landfall this morning in Texas, lashing the coast with winds of 80 miles per hour. As a result of Beryl, flights to and from Houston are being delayed and canceled across the board. Out of the 24 flights canceled at Newark Liberty International Airport, 10 were coming from Houston and seven were going to Houston.

Police say a 79-year-old man from Clark was arrested today after reports of shorts fired. According to police, an investigation revealed a barricaded person with a weapon at 9 Stanton St. They say Union County Special Weapons and Tactics unit responded to the incident. Union County SWAT officers then entered the home and arrested Kenneth Kutyla, of Clark, police say. Neighbors told News 12 New Jersey they saw a person placed unto a stretcher.
