" Today is expected to be another hot day, but you won't be able to cool off at a beach in Monmouth County due to elevated arsenic levels. The EPA posted signs on the beach warning the public not to touch or handle any materials found on a stretch of Raritan Bayshore Beach in Keyport. Although concentrations of lead in what’s called slag are low, the samples do have elevated levels of arsenic. The source of the material remains unknown and is being investigated. "

Police were called to “The Pinnacle” apartment complex on Main Street about 1:25 a.m. Sunday, according to the attorney general's press release. The number of suspects was not available. The condition of the police officer who was shot while on duty has been upgraded from serious to stable. The Perth Amboy police chief confirmed the upgraded condition in a statement to News 12 New Jersey late Wednesday night. The unidentified Perth Amboy officer was shot on Broad Street in Rahway just before 9 p.m. The police source said the officer was conducting surveillance on a vehicle when the suspect opened fire on officers from Rahway and Perth Amboy.
