Sleek glass and exposed steel clad the exterior of the building designed by international architecture firm HOK. The interiors, by Abel Design Group, combine warm earthy colors, organic materials, brass fixtures and hardwood floors in an homage to the neighboring 160-acre park, just steps away.

    Photo: LazarilloDrawing from more than 20 years of design experience, Mexico City-based architect Lorena Vieyra launched Omet, an international platform spotlighting Latin American creatives. Last fall, the company’s flagship showroom opened in Central East Austin. The space’s elegant furniture and artful accents range from volcanic stone stools, which are kept minimal to reveal the rock’s natural variations, to a green marble bench abstracting Mayan hieroglyphs.

Abstracts serve as self-expression and spiritual healing for the Austin-based artist, who discovered the art form as a means of therapy. She uses pastels and charcoal to make intentional marks, while acrylic paint provides an ease of manipulation and ability to speak to a range of emotions. In the same vein, Austin hopes her paintings will give space for the viewer to meditate and find their own reclamation of voice.

SwoonAfter nearly four years of anticipation, the beloved Dallas restaurant Mirador has reopened with an elevated look. “We wanted it to be a jewel box,” says Joslyn Taylor, partner at Swoon, the Studio, who designed the space with founder Samantha Sano. To contrast and balance the masculine lines of the building, the designers implemented curved elements and references to nature.
