Natalie Jensen and her children are walkers at Boone Elementary School in the Highland Park ISD. Jensen said she just knows her kids are OK when walking because Ms. Doris Ponder is the one holding the stop sign. "I'm just walking my babies back home," Ponder said. Ponder, who is the mother of two and grandmother to four, is also a widow. Jensen said she misses her husband so much, but always still finds a way to make everyone smile.

It is National Volunteer Month, but there is a group of older adults working to make the school year better for students all year long. More than 100 Dallas-area older adults are making a serious difference in the lives of children through a program called Foster Grandparents. The program is funded by AmeriCorps as part of AmeriCorps Seniors, but it's made available to Dallas residents through local nonprofit The Senior Source.

In honor of National Volunteer Month, Hopeful Heartbreakers Literary Donations & Charities just installed a Little Free Library at Meadowbrook Park in Arlington. What makes this even more special is that the organization also leads monthly park cleanups at the same location, combining literacy access with consistent volunteerism.

The Grand Prairie Libraries are adding two mobile libraries for library services. According to the library's website, each mobile unit will have close to 1700 books in English and Spanish. That's not all, though. They will also offer DVDs and audiobooks for all ages to check out. In addition, each will have laptops and a printer for internet access, email, scanning, and printing. WIFI will be available in and around the buses.
