    Georgia ranked in the bottom 10 of all the states for financial literacy, according to a recent study launched by Gold IRA Custodians, a retirement investment platform. Using data obtained from agencies such as Forbes Advisor, Experian, the FINRA Foundation and Federal Reserve including credit card delinquency rates, credit scores, percentage of the population that have emergency savings, budgets and pay bills on time, Gold IRA ranked the states from most financially literate to least.

    On Monday, at a very brief work session – about 5 minutes – Grantville City Council members heard that Cornerstone Rentals requested a rezoning for property at 45 Grady Smith Road. Cornerstone previously requested and received a rezoning for property that once held a number of mobile homes. It plans to build rental properties on the now empty lots at 96 and 112 Arnold Street. The Grady Smith Road property is currently zoned R-20, single-family residential.

    Piedmont Newnan retained its B grade and Piedmont Fayette retained its A on Leapfrog’s spring 2025 Hospital Safety Grades released last week. Leapfrog releases Hospital Safety grades twice a year — in the fall and in the spring. Since 2012, it has been making those grades available to the public. “Upwards of 200,000 people die annually due to preventable mistakes in hospitals, according to theJournal of Patient Safety," the Leapfrog Group website states.

    This year in Newnan there will be a slate of Juneteenth events including the inaugural Juneteenth parade organized by the Coweta County NAACP Youth Council. Dillon Terrell, president of the Coweta NAACP Youth Council, said the council wanted to bring the parade to the city to highlight a part of the city’s history. “We’re not too far separated from that history,” Terrell said.

    On Wednesday, Olivia Handley, family and consumer science agent of the Coweta County UGA Extension Service office, asked a group of fourth and fifth grade students if they liked vegetables. “No,” they yelled from their seats in the stands of the gymnasium on Wesley Street where they were gathered for the dedication of the Wesley Street Community Garden across the street. As many parents know, children will often refuse the vegetables on their plates in favor of other foods.
