A new and affordable option for getting to and from the Tri-Cities Airport is about to roll out. Beginning June 16, Ben Franklin Transit will have a new limited-stop express route between Richland and Pasco, with a curbside stop at the airport. The new Express 2X route will run from 6-9 a.m. Monday through Friday and then again from 2-6 p.m., with an estimated 30-minute route time.

The rundown, neglected over-the-water building on the Columbia River in Pasco desperately needed a new lease on life. Corina Manzano and her business partner, Joey Jordan, signed that lease. After an extensive remodeling, they reopened the unique building jutting out over an inlet in the Big Pasco Industrial Park as the Wheelhouse Event Center.

Heritage Landscaping of Kennewick is under new ownership, but the new faces at the helm aren’t unfamiliar. The residential and commercial landscape construction and maintenance business with offices in Kennewick, Spokane, Yakima and Suncadia recently changed hands from founder Randy Mendenhall to his sons, Matt Mendenhall and Andrew Mendenhall. The two have worked off and on at the family business, now in its 32nd year, since they were kids while longtime customers have watched them grow.

Fans soon will be able to buy Pasco-made treats at the Huntsville Airport and Spaceport in Alabama, about 10 minutes away from the U.S. Space and Rocket Center. The handmade goodies are already sold at 17 other airports, including the Tri-Cities Airport in Pasco.

The building once home to Pasco’s longest continuously operating restaurant is now serving up cuisine from another continent. The Chinese food once dished up at 1520 N. Fourth Ave. has given way to south of the border and Southern California favorites, such as loaded carne asada (lime-marinated steak) fries, birria (goat or beef cooked in broth), pollo loco (fire-grilled chicken) and, of course, deep-fried cinnamon encrusted churros with a variety of sauces and sweet toppings.
