Downtown business leaders say the in-office presence is at about 70% of pre-pandemic levels. However there's still a void without the thousands of Target Corporation employees filling the streets at lunchtime.

Memorial Day is Monday and local group "Flags for Fort Snelling" has revived the tradition of placing an American flag at every gravestone in the Fort Snelling National Cemetery. The practice was abandoned for nearly 30 years due to a lack of federal funding. But Flags for For Snelling founder Joanne Malmstedt credits dedicated volunteers for growing the effort from a few thousand flags to its current scale over the past decade.

A Turkish University of Minnesota grad student is free after being detained by federal immigration officials for several weeks. 27-year old Dogukan Gunaydin was arrested by ICE agents in March after his visa was revoked without notice. But a federal judge ordered him released, saying the government's detention of him violated his right to due process. The Department of Homeland Security said it was due to a 2023 drunk driving conviction and that Gunaydin was a threat to public safety.
