Snow showers have picked up across the Pikes Peak Region and Pueblo. There will be a potential break with the snow in the afternoon, but so far it's not easing up. Tuesday, Feb. 1111:00 AM Update: Winter Weather Advisories will begin at 5PM this evening across much of our area and into the plains. The advisories closer to the I-25 corridor will expire at 11AM on Wednesday morning. Further east, these advisories will expire at 2PM. The city of Fountain is currently on accident alert.

The National Weather Service has changed their winter weather alerts. This went into effect back in October of last year, but we haven't seen any of these alerts issued yet. With this incoming arctic blast, temperatures will likely drop below zero, and we could see these brand new alerts issued. One of the main changes was the consolidation of wind chill alerts. You will now just see extreme cold alerts.

Three wildfires are still raging across portions of Southern California. The biggest fire is still the Palisades fire covering 23,713 acres. The Eaton Fire is the second largest covering 14,117 acres. The smallest of the three main fires is the Hurst fire, and firefighters have that fire at 97% containment. The current weather pattern, terrain, and dry grasses are all to blame for the rapid spread of these fires. Mountains surround the city, and that's where these fires are located.
Comet and planets visible in the night sky tonight

Look up to the skies tonight because a comet and multiple planets will be visible with the naked eye. You will likely have to travel to where there isn't as much light pollution and away from the mountains. Comet C/2024 G3 is fairly new to scientists and was discovered just last year. This comet will be higher in the sky in the southern hemisphere, but you might still be able to catch a glimpse of it here in Colorado. This comet will be closer to the sun which help illuminate it.

Tonight's Forecast:Overnight temperatures will drop into the teen, so any leftover snow will freeze. This will mainly be a concern in parking lots and on back roads. Some flurries will be possible along the Palmer Divide tonight, but anything that moves in will be light. Tomorrow, cold temperatures will linger behind with temperatures only making it into the lower 30s for most of us. The plains will be a few degrees warmer.

Tonight's Forecast:Snow showers will have the biggest impacts for the southern I-25 corridor. Winter weather advisories are in place for Huerfano and parts of Las Animas county. Where we see the heavier bands of snow, closer to the Wet Mountains, there is a possibility of 3-6 inches of snow. Visibility will be poor in some areas, including Pueblo. It's best to stay off the roads in these conditions. Snow showers will end from the north to the south with most of us clearing out before midnight.
Here's a look at snow totals in our area

We saw a wide range of snow totals ranging from 7 inches near Lake Isabel to 2 inches closer to Peterson Air Force Base. Overall, this storm system gave the higher totals to our friends closer to the mountains and the higher terrain. This was due to the downsloping winds helping the snow to evaporate before reaching the ground.

After this quick moving storm, bringing several inches of snow, much colder air will be left behind. Overnight lows will be dangerously cold with pretty much everyone seeing single digits. Wind chills or the feels like temperature will make it feel even colder. Here in the Springs that wind chill will be between 0 to 5 degrees. Down in Pueblo it will be a little bit higher and closer to the air temperature since there won't be much wind.

Update: The Winter Weather Advisories in El Paso and Pueblo county have been upgraded to a Winter Storm Warning. This is in effect until 5 P.M. on Tuesday evening. Heavy snow is expected and could limit visibility at times. Plan on slippery roads lasting through the evening on Tuesday.
