Dominguez killed David Breaux and Karim Abou Najm and stabbed Kimberlee Guillory using a deadly weapon, and he suffered from schizophrenia at the time, the lawyers concurred.

WOODLAND — Although he didn’t realize it at the time, Carlos Reales Dominguez’s first symptoms of schizophrenia surfaced in the spring of his freshman year at UC Davis. The first was at his girlfriend Caley Gallardo’s dorm, where Dominguez said he “saw a shadow figure in the corner of the room” that he perceived to be the devil. He wasn’t sure whether he was awake or asleep at the time.
