NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) - April is cancer awareness month, and rates of cancers affecting the head and neck areas are increasing, but the reason why may be surprising. Doctors are saying human papillomavirus (HPV) infections, a sexually transmitted disease, are causing the spike in cases. Head and neck cancers have traditionally been associated with smoking and drinking, but there are more instances connected to HPV, doctors say.
