Currently, seat belts are required on new buses but not old ones, following a law passed in 2017. On Wednesday, the Senate Transportation Committee considered Senate Bill 546. It would require three-point seat belts on all school buses, regardless of age.

    AUSTIN, Texas — Austin ISD is looking into how a substitute bus driver ended up at the wrong school on Tuesday morning. The principal of Campbell Elementary School sent a letter to families saying the driver picked up children on Tuesday morning and brought them to the right school, but did not let them off the bus. The driver did not know where to drop the kids off at Campbell Elementary, so he took them to Winn Montessori, another Austin ISD school about 4 miles away.
