SPRINGFIELD, Mo. - The Lockwood High School Tigers softball team (22-7) will have to wait for another season to claim its first-ever state title after falling 3-0 to the defending state championship Concordia High School Orioles (26-4) in the Class 1 championship game on Wednesday at Springfield's Meador Park. The runner-up finish is the only time in the history of LHS that the Tigers have placed at state and Lockwood did it chock-full of young talent.

Joplin (17-16) prevailed - as it has throughout the tournament - with strong pitching and tough defense. In their three tournament games, the Joplin Eagles have given up two runs total.

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — The question facing the fifth-seeded Joplin baseball squad as it took the field against the top-seeded Kickapoo Chiefs in their Class 6 District 6 semifinal Thursday was how to stop a Chiefs offense that handed the Eagles a 10-0 loss in their last meeting on April 9. The Eagles (16-16) found the answer in strong pitching and sturdy defense as they defeated the Chiefs 2-0 at Glendale High School.
