Crews working at North Beach to place boulders to secure revetment at coastal track in San Clemente

The Laguna Art Museum will have a splash of color outside for a bit, thanks to the community’s helping hand. The museum, which sits along Pacific Coast Highway just north of Main Beach, got a temporary makeover on Saturday, April 26, as part of a fundraising effort to help the aging building. About 400 donors contributed to the creative fundraising effort, with donations of at least $250 earning them a section to paint on the building for the “Every Single One” campaign.

It’s all about fun, fitness – and of course, the flow. After less than two months of construction, Orange County’s first asphalt pump track opened to the public on Saturday, April 26, in San Clemente, allowing people riding bikes, skateboards and scooters to weave along the winding, bumpy course. The 18,000-square-foot track at Richard T. Steed Memorial Park replaces a plot of dirt formerly used as a dog park next to the popular skate park and pickleball courts.

Train service through San Clemente will halt for about six weeks starting April 28 as crews start work to stabilize a section of track at risk of landslides and coastal erosion, Orange County Transportation Authority officials announced. The emergency project along the North Beach area of San Clemente, approved by the California Coastal Commission earlier this month, will add 7,650 tons of boulders to the beachside of the track and remove the remaining parts of the broken Mariposa Bridge.
