At 11 a.m. on Nov. 3, Mariachi Plaza was flooded with a wave of Dodger blue. A 52-foot tall mural of Fernando Valenzuela gazed down on the city of Los Angeles. An ofrenda for El Toro sat just beneath the mural, celebrating his life. The smell of incense was strong throughout First Street. After the Dodgers won the World Series, the City of Angels was hit with the realization that the legend who was Fernando Valenzuela had left us for the very heavens he admired before every pitch.

Leila El SabbaghStaff WriterMen’s water polo dropped their second consecutive game to the Cal Lutheran Kingsmen, 14-11, Saturday at the La Verne Aquatic Center in Las Flores Park. This loss followed their 17-12 loss against the Pomona-Pitzer Sagehens on Oct. 23. The Leopards started the game off strong with a quick goal in the opening minute by senior center David Gutierrez after an exclusion penalty against Cal Lutheran.

Leila El SabbaghStaff WriterThe Leopards were unable to secure a win against the Cal Lutheran Kingsmen on Homecoming weekend, losing 31-17 at Ortmayer Stadium. The Kingsmen neutralized the La Verne defense, scoring on their opening drive of the game. Cal Lutheran added two more touchdowns, taking a three score lead in the second quarter, 21-0.

The event consisted of three student authors who read their works. Roughly 40 ULV community members attended the event.

Leila El SabbaghStaff WriterThe Department of Music at Pomona College and Scripps College have collaborated for a Claremont Colleges faculty mariachi concert Sept. 20 in Balch Auditorium. Faculty from both colleges performed classic mariachi pieces, such as “La Llorona” and “Volver, Volver.”The echoes of mariachi music rang throughout the walls of Balch Auditorium as the melodies enchanted concert goers.
