At 11 a.m. on Nov. 3, Mariachi Plaza was flooded with a wave of Dodger blue. A 52-foot tall mural of Fernando Valenzuela gazed down on the city of Los Angeles. An ofrenda for El Toro sat just beneath the mural, celebrating his life. The smell of incense was strong throughout First Street. After the Dodgers won the World Series, the City of Angels was hit with the realization that the legend who was Fernando Valenzuela had left us for the very heavens he admired before every pitch.

Leila El SabbaghStaff WriterMen’s water polo dropped their second consecutive game to the Cal Lutheran Kingsmen, 14-11, Saturday at the La Verne Aquatic Center in Las Flores Park. This loss followed their 17-12 loss against the Pomona-Pitzer Sagehens on Oct. 23. The Leopards started the game off strong with a quick goal in the opening minute by senior center David Gutierrez after an exclusion penalty against Cal Lutheran.
Football drops Homecoming game to Kingsmen

Leila El SabbaghStaff WriterThe Leopards were unable to secure a win against the Cal Lutheran Kingsmen on Homecoming weekend, losing 31-17 at Ortmayer Stadium. The Kingsmen neutralized the La Verne defense, scoring on their opening drive of the game. Cal Lutheran added two more touchdowns, taking a three score lead in the second quarter, 21-0.

Faculty from both colleges performed classic mariachi pieces, such as “La Llorona” and “Volver, Volver.”The echoes of mariachi music rang throughout the walls of Balch Auditorium as the melodies enchanted concert goers.

Leila El SabbaghStaff WriterMen’s soccer fell to Stanton, 2-0, in their third game of the season after a rare 8 p.m. start time Saturday at Ortmayer Stadium. The game against Stanton followed a 3-0 exhibition game win by the Leopards against Southern California Leadership University. Weather and air quality postponed the men’s and women’s soccer games to later times, pushing them back an hour. “It’s always tough playing in the heat, especially on turf,” junior midfielder Joshua Mezquita said.

To the right of the entrance is the stage with the words ‘Emo Nite’ being highlighted on a DJ’s turntable. As the LED gravestone with a crack at the top lit up pink behind the DJ, music quickly started booming from the surrounding speakers.
