Each year, Temple University selects its “30 Under 30”: 30 honorees, each under 30 years old, who are making an impact on their world. This year, one honoree was former longtime Mt. Airy resident Carine Wellington, a health policy analyst for the Department of Defense (DoD). Wellington was selected from a pool of more than 200 nominations. Posted 5/29/25On the one hand, the just-released “Backstitching Life's Fabric; My Journey of Creative Healing,” by Glenside author Lillian Gaffney, is a quick, compelling read. I read the 267-page book in one recent weekend. On the other hand, it is a difficult, at times painful, book. Gaffney’s memoir is filled with suffering by Gaffney and her adult children. They reach out again and again for help but are so debilitated by addiction that a happy ending seems unlikely.
