President Donald Trump’s crackdown on immigration has hit the University of Wyoming. Chad Baldwin, spokesperson for the school, confirmed to Cowboy State Daily on Tuesday that “a few” international students have had their visas to be in the United States revoked. “When that eventually leads to deportation, I’m not sure,” he said in an email.

The Laramie County Sheriff’s Office set up a closed course lawnmower driving demonstration at Cowboy State Daily’s offices in Cheyenne last December to show the effects of impaired driving in real time. Now that demonstration will be presented at the International Association of Chiefs of Police’s Impaired Driving and Traffic Safety Conference in August.

Wyoming has its own true-life version of the classic film “Hoosiers” in the story of the 1949 boys high school basketball team from the tiny southwest coal mining town of Reliance. The Pirates shocked the Cowboy State that year when they reached the Wyoming Class A championship game as a huge underdog. To get there, the school of 105 students in a town of 710 residents, beat powerhouse Cheyenne High School in the state semifinals.

Wyoming Attorney General Bridget Hill will be the newest addition to the Wyoming Supreme Court. Gov. Mark Gordon announced Friday that he’s picked Hill to replace Chief Justice Kate Fox on Wyoming’s highest court, who’s retiring. “After careful consideration, I chose General Hill because she possesses a deep and original understanding of both Wyoming and constitutional law,” Gordon says in the statement.

Legal gambling has grown in leaps and bounds in Wyoming over the past few years, and the Wyoming Legislature hasn’t added much oversight on the $2 billion per year industry. State Sen. John Kolb, R-Rock Springs, wants to see more local control over gambling. He saw the impacts of the lack of local regulatory control firsthand in 2012 when he was a county commissioner for Sweetwater County.
