WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – On the very first pitch of his first Major League Baseball at-bat, former Demon Deacon Nick Kurtz lined a hard grounder past the outstretched glove of Rangers second baseman Marcus Semien, driving in teammate Shea Langeliers. The base knock gave the A's a 4-0 lead in the bottom of the first, as they came away with a 5-2 victory. For Kurtz, it signified his first MLB at-bat, hit and RBI.

Just a day after the four-month anniversary of his hiring as new Wake Forest Football head coach, Jake Dickert led his Demon Deacons onto the Allegacy Stadium field to display what they've learned through the first 14 practices of spring camp in the annual Spring Showcase. The scoring system was set up as offense versus defense, with the defense coming out slight victors after being a step ahead through most of camp; but the scrimmage wasn't without highlights from both sides.

With teammates along for the ride on a cool, rainy December evening, Demond Claiborne made the pilgrimage to the Spectrum Center in Charlotte to see his favorite recording artist — Rod Wave. Although they loved the show, nobody was pleased when they got back to where they'd parked only to find Claiborne's passenger side windows had been busted. So they made the uncomfortable commute back to Winston-Salem with both rain and occasional glass flying into them. "It was terrible," Claiborne said.
