(FOX5) - Still no sign of Mojave Max our Desert Tortoises and weather prognosticator like Punxsutawney Phil the groundhog everyone turns to in early February to see if we get an early spring. Mojave Max is still in Brumation (a reptiles hibernation) at the Springs Preserve. The last two years Max has come out of his burrow on just a day apart in April. The earliest day he ever surfaced is February 14th back in 2005.

Vegas Elite Cleaners is offering a one-time free cleaning service in an effort to make homes clean, safe and healthy. “I know how important it is to care for our older generation, and it’s the least I can do,” said Patrick Baja owners of Vegas Elite Cleaners. 75-year-old Barbara Anderson and her husband, 90, have limited abilities to move around.

(FOX5) - 2024’s grueling summer heat took a toll on some fruits and vegetables grown at Gilcrease Orchards. “We lost a lot of the tomato fruit to sunburn,” according to Gilcrease Director Mark Ruben. “On the day we hit 120 degrees, they all died.”Ruben tells FOX5 Gilcrease does not want a repeat of 2024, so this winter, they had a massive 6-and-a-half acre shade structure installed. “It’s a canopy with 30 feet between poles, and also 30 feet wide,” Ruben said.

    LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) - Several staff members including a CCSD police officer were recognized for their heroic work the first day back from winter break in January. Student Sophia Finn Whittacre collapsed in her classroom at the end of the first period. “The breathing was a little labored and we all kind of realized it was a little more intense that a stroke,” said Christopher Brooks, a CCSD police officer.
