No, they weren’t doing kickflips or grinding the rails, but took part in a “Paint the Park” event co-hosted by Switch Wicked — a screen printing and apparel business founded in 2021 — and the Manhattan Parks and Recreation department. During a three-hour timespan, attendees of all experience levels used spray paint cans to colorize the setting dominated by a solid gray.

Baseball just entered the chat, although basketball has been living rent free for quite some time. Though I decided not to fill out brackets this year, I still am watching men’s and women’s college teams from around the country on a quest to achieve glory. For our local squad in Manhattan — the K-State ladies — it’s been quite an amazing season so far, but hopefully it’s not over after Saturday.

The third time was the charm for 10-year-old Bria Sturges. After back-to-back years of unsuccessful outings in the annual Riley County Spelling Bee, she correctly spelled “spindle” Saturday to emerge victorious. “If I’m being honest, I really didn’t think I was going to be the winner because, well, the last two years haven’t really been very good,” said Sturges, a fifth grader at Theodore Roosevelt Elementary School in Manhattan.

I’ve fallen in love with someone. Sure, they have flaws — like everyone else in the world — yet they always brighten my day. Sometimes we’ll go out to eat at a local place and then hit up an attraction, or otherwise stay in with a home-cooked meal and snuggle on the couch playing video games or watching a movie. We may even find ourselves binging meme compilation videos on YouTube, laughing until it hurts. I really care for this person, and I thank Cupid for making the magic happen.

Built in 1887 by Christena and Joseph Brandt, the hotel was named to the National Register of Historic Places in 2008. After going through several ownership groups — and previously named the Alma Hotel — Brandt House’s current owners consist of Alma couples Morgan and Tyler Holloman, as well as Alex and Amanda Gnadt.

Through the collective Wildcat NIL — which aims to enhance name, image and likeness opportunities for K-State student-athletes — Michael Beasley held a meet-and-greet Saturday at Rockin K’s to chat with fans and sign autographs. He also sold some of his “We Them Ones” merchandise at the event.
