Georgia State Patrol officials are defending the high-speed pursuit that ended in a deadly crash in Little Five Points this week. GSP tells WABE they will ensure the driver who fled deputies will be prosecuted to the fullest extent that Georgia law allows. GSP tells WABE that the incident that killed 19-year-old Cooper Schoenke of DeKalb County is nothing short of heartbreaking. A car being pursued by a state trooper sped through a stoplight and collided with Schoenke’s vehicle Monday.

Atlanta police say they’ve arrested the suspect who was recorded allegedly cutting up tents at the Old Wheat Street homeless encampment in the Sweet Auburn District earlier this month. According to APD officials, the department took 42-year-old Daniel Barnett into custody Tuesday after he was identified while attending court at the Fulton County Courthouse on unrelated charges. He was subsequently transported to the Fulton County Jail for processing.
