On an old brownfield site west of Sudbury, earth-moving equipment has started carving out the early structure of what will eventually become the city's newest nickel-copper mine. Work on Magna Mining's Crean Hill project, located about a 30-minute drive west of Sudbury, got underway in mid-July. After four decades serving the Timmins community from afar, Northern Uniform Service is setting down some permanent roots. The Sudbury-based uniform rental and cleaning service is celebrating the opening of a brand-new, 5,000-square-foot service depot, which is purpose-built to serve Timmins-area clients. For more than 40 years, the Ecological Farmers Association of Ontario (EFAO) has promoted ecological ways of farming through its programming and other resources. But, more recently, as the organization looked for ways to make their services more inclusive, it realized it could do more to support Indigenous growers, noted Ali French, the organization’s executive director. “We're always trying to do programming based on the input and the needs of our members,” French said.

Ontario has announced a new strategy designed to train skilled workers for jobs in the mining industry, in an effort to meet burgeoning demand for the production of battery electric vehicles (BEVs). The Critical Minerals Talent Strategy, administered through the Ontario Vehicle Innovation Network (OVIN), was announced by Ontario’s mines minister, George Pirie, during the second day of the BEV In Depth battery electric vehicle conference, being held in Sudbury May 29-30.
