Many business owners are expressing frustration over permit delays they say they are experiencing with the City of Edmonton. In business, time is money and some entrepreneurs say they have paid tens of thousands of dollars in rent without being able to open their doors because their permits took months - or in some cases even upwards of a year - to be approved. But the City of Edmonton maintains its permit process is one the best in Canada.

An Edmontonian who saved the life of a man, and suffered serious injuries while doing so, has been honoured with a medal of bravery. What makes this extra special - his uncle received the same award 26 years ago. In May of 2021, Trevor Mills was driving in Radium B.C. when he encountered an erratic driver ahead of him who eventually crashed over the side of the embankment.

An Alberta dentist is facing sexual assault charges stemming from alleged incidents dating back more than a decade in Edmonton. Dr. Shouresh Charkhandeh is accused of committing several crimes and was formally charged on Aug. 21. The charges are for alleged crimes said to have happened between January 2012 and May 2013. Charkhandeh faces four charges of sexual assault and one of threatening to cause bodily harm while committing a sexual assault.

Several Medicentres walk-in clinics and family practices have closed or are about to in Edmonton and Calgary because doctors say they aren’t able to afford the rent. Family practice Gateway Medical Clinic on Calgary Trail and 38th Avenue in south Edmonton is closing in May — affecting more than 7,000 patients, including Jean Mill. “They can’t afford the rent on the building with the remaining doctors and they can’t get doctors to take over for the two people that are retiring,” Mill said.

Edmonton Oilers superstars Zach Hyman and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins went from being hockey heroes to snow angels in the eyes of some young Edmontonians this past weekend. Two teens, Karson Scholtes and Jesse Watson, along with a third friend got stuck in the snow while driving in the west end along 149 Street and 84 Avenue at around 9:30 p.m. Saturday. “Hit a little bit of a snowdrift, had no brakes, couldn’t steer out and kind of just hit the snowbank,”said Scholtes.
