The Danish equestrian federation has named its dressage team. Cathrine Laudrup-Dufour and Mount St. John FreestyleDaniel Bachmann Andersen and VayronNanna Skodborg Merrald and Blue Hors ZepterNadja Aaboe Sloth and Favour Gersdorf will be the traveling reserve. The country named its eventing and jumping athletes on June 26. The Swedish equestrian has named it’s dressage team in its entirety after previously naming two riders: Patrik Kittel and Therese Nilshagen.

The U.S. Equestrian Federation has announced the athlete-and-horse combinations selected to represent the U.S. Olympic Jumping Team as a part of Team USA at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games, to be held in Versailles, France, from July 27-Aug. 9. The jumping competition will begin on Aug. 1 and continue through Aug. 6 at the equestrian grounds of Versailles. “We are very lucky to have three of the most experienced athletes in the sport riding horses that are in top form heading into the Games.

For most horse owners, the occurrence of fireworks is rare enough not to be a year-round concern, but that also means that when fireworks do get set off around summer holidays or New Year celebrations, horses have had little opportunity to acclimate to the surprising pops and flashes. The firework season that kicks up each summer—often unpredictably with unsanctioned, backyard pyrotechnics—can lead to a rise in anxiety for both horses and the people who care for them.

It’s not often that amateur eventers riding at the novice level get to compete for real prize money. But this summer, the Horse Park at Woodside (California) is celebrating lower-level eventers with the new $6,000 Bert Wood Novice Stakes, to be held Aug. 9-11 during the annual summer horse trials. The class was the brainchild of one of Woodside’s long-time board members, who wanted to remain anonymous but will fund the purse on an annual basis.

The Austrian Equestrian Federation has announced the competitors that will represent that country at the Paris Olympic Games which take place July 27-Aug. 6. Austria will be fielding full teams in show jumping and dressage, and will also send two individuals in eventing.

Social license to operate and improving horse welfare have been hot topics this year through the equestrian world, and rule change proposals recently released by the Fédération Equestre Internationale focus heavily on those. National federations and stakeholders now have until Aug. 21 to comment on the draft proposals. The rule change proposals then will be voted on during the FEI General Assembly, which was scheduled to take place Nov. 9-13 in Muscat, Oman.
