California-based hunter/jumper trainer Robert Sean Leckie has been temporarily suspended by the U.S. Center for SafeSport, effective April 4. Leckie, who runs Blue Ridge Farm in San Juan Capistrano, California, is accused of “allegations of misconduct,” and the temporary suspension includes a no-contact directive, meaning he cannot contact certain parties involved in the complaint against him. A spokesman for Leckie indicated the case involves a sexual harassment claim against the trainer.

Equestrians in western North Carolina and upstate South Carolina saw their watchful waiting turn to alarm as wildfire activity that began in the region last week intensified Sunday, March 23. Amid extreme drought conditions and high winds, and with debris from the Hurricane Helene catastrophe six months ago still on the ground throughout the region, small fires and sparks from trees falling on power lines quickly grew into significant threats.

Dressage trainer Eliza Sydnor Romm and professional artist Susan DiFelice were first introduced decades ago, when Sydnor’s family hired DiFelice to paint a portrait of her horse. Ann Demellweek thought she’d lost her beloved horse “Kit” forever after she was forced to sell him in 1998. She had owned the Canadian Warmblood Thoroughbred cross gelding, show name Mahogany North, from the time he was weaned until he was 15. A divorce forced Demellweek to sell Kit, and she was heartbroken about it. “I really had no choice. I needed a roof over my head,” she recalled. The day his new owner came to pick him up, Kit refused to get in the trailer despite always being very easy to load.
