MADISON CO., Ala. (WAFF) - Madison County has lost a devoted, life-long public servant and one of its longest-serving sheriffs. Former Madison County Sheriff Joe Patterson passed away Tuesday night at the age of 96. Sheriff Patterson was legendary in and out of law enforcement. He started out as a Huntsville Police officer in 1958 and then moved to the “county,” where, eventually, he was elected to four consecutive terms as sheriff. A record he shared with the late Sheriff Blake Dorning.

ARDMORE, Ala. (WAFF) - The removal of the Saturn 1B rocket is underway along I-65 in Ardmore. On August 3, acting Marshall Space Flight Center News Chief Lance Davis confirmed the rocket removal has begun. State Sen. Tom Butler told WAFF 48 that scaffolding had been constructed near the rocket. Construction workers at the site said the engines have already been removed. They are now demobilizing the rocket.
