Local Pittsburghers are among the tens of thousands of mourners who observed Pope Francis lying in state on Thursday. “It was a very emotional experience,” said Trey Papuga, of Dormont. Trey and his wife, Donna, are amid a 45-day trip across Europe. The pair just so happened to be en route to Rome when news broke Monday of Pope Francis’ passing. Their hotel is just steps from Vatican City.

Last week marked five years since the Etna woman, then 20, was first reported missing. “As a family, we will never give up,” said Paul Young, the victim’s uncle. “We will never stop.”For years, loved ones hoped to find the young woman alive.

A retired Pittsburgh Police officer and his family are among the thousands who’ve lost nearly everything in the devastating wildfires tearing through California. Jeff Garris, his wife, and their child who has disabilities had recently moved to the Pacific Palisades, in an effort to be closer to their older son. “We made the decision to start over, and now we’re really starting over, from scratch,” Garris told Channel 11 via a Zoom interview.
